Atlas Distribution Signs Nicole Kidman Film
Atlas Distribution Company picks up star studded, "Queen of the Desert"
Los Angeles, California - May 12, 2015 - Atlas Distribution Company and Benaroya Pictures announced today the signing of the new film, "Queen of the Desert", to an exclusive US theatrical distribution deal.
Directed by the acclaimed Werner Herzog, "Queen of the Desert" tells the gripping true story of Gertrude Bell, an English writer, traveller, political officer, administrator, spy, and archaeologist who became highly influential to British imperial policy-making in the early part of the 20th century.
"Gertrude Bell was an integral figure in the reshaping of the middle-east, braving the most inhospitable environments with the most hostile inhabitants, She was a true pioneer and a heroine in every sense of the word." said Atlas Distribution CEO, John Aglialoro.
"It is a huge endeavour," Kidman told an interviewer in December. "I'm completely enraptured with her. She basically defined the borders between Iraq and Jordan that exist today, borders that she negotiated between Churchill and different Arab leaders."
Also starring in the film are James Franco (The Interview, This is the End), Robert Pattinson (Twilight, Water for Elephants), and Damian Lewis (Wolf Hall, Homeland). The film was Produced by Cassian Elwes, Michael Benaroya, and Nick Raslan.
"We're very excited to be working with Atlas Distribution. Their drive and passion for the project are inspiring and the experience and technology they bring to the table is second to none." said Producer Nick Raslan.
Atlas Distribution President, Harmon Kaslow stated, "This is exactly the type of film we hope to bring to the masses with Atlas Distribution - an incredible heroine who thought for herself, took orders from no one, and had a lasting impact on the world. Gertrude Bell was a real life Randian hero."
"Queen of the Desert" is the first film acquired by Atlas Distribution under the $25 million UM Holdings P&A Facility and is set for limited release in late September 2015 with an eye on 1000 screens.
Sierra/Affinity is handling international sales. Larry Kopekin provided legal counsel for Benaroya Pictures. Mark Sever provided legal counsel for Atlas Distribution Company.
